Bara Telecommunications Networking (BTN), in conjunction with the Ministry of Basic Education, hosted a significant workshop aimed at empowering education digitally. This event, held at the Tlokweng Education Center on the 23rd of May 2024, focused on exploring strategies, tools, and best practices for modern classrooms. The workshop was facilitated by BTN’s Learning Management System (LMS) and digital experts, who provided valuable insights into innovative digital teaching methods and the integration of assistive technologies.

The Tlokweng Education Center played a crucial role in the success of the workshop by providing a fully networked and internet-connected computer lab, equipped with state-of-the-art computers. This modern facility enabled participants to gain hands-on experience with digital tools and technologies, reinforcing the importance of digital education in the 21st century. The Tlokweng Centre of Education welcomed the guests and emphasized the significance of embracing digital education to prepare students for the demands of the modern world.
The guest of honor, Mrs. Khulmann, the Acting Director of Curriculum Development, officially opened the workshop. In her address, she thanked the organizers for this critical and important initiative, which leads to the adoption and implementation of digital education in Botswana’s primary and secondary education sectors. Mrs. Khulmann called on the participating teachers to embrace the whirlwind of digital education in the digital age and to create digital citizens and workers who will support the knowledge economy already adopted by the government of Botswana. She further highlighted the need to develop the rapidly growing information society, emphasizing that digital education is essential for the country’s future growth and development.
The workshop saw the participation of 33 junior and 6 senior secondary schools from the South East District, each represented by one teacher from the science department. These educators were provided with electronic digital content for demonstration purposes to support their teaching in physics, chemistry, biology, mathematics, and agriculture. The Ministry of Education participated through several key departments, including the Curriculum Development Department and the Teacher Training and Support Department, underscoring the collaborative effort to enhance the quality of education in Botswana.
